Senior Mining Engineer

Job description

Remote (North American hours preferred) | Full-time

The Role

We’re hiring a Senior Mining Engineer to support the development of accurate, engineering-based models for mine design, scheduling, and cost estimation. You’ll apply real-world mining experience to help ensure our methodologies, assumptions, and tools reflect how projects actually operate.

This role combines technical engineering work, economic analysis, and collaboration with our product and data teams. You’ll review technical reports, build cost and production models, and help structure engineering workflows that will ultimately be used across our software products.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and validate CAPEX and OPEX models for surface and underground projects
  • Develop mining cost estimates using equipment, labor, consumables, and productivity assumptions
  • Review 43-101s, JORCs, and SK 1300s to extract engineering and cost-related parameters
  • Support development of mining schedules and operating assumptions
  • Work with internal teams to translate engineering workflows into structured methodologies
  • Help maintain consistency and accuracy across our cost models and databases
  • Provide technical guidance on mining methods, production rates, and project assumptions

What You Bring

Must Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering (or related field)
  • 5+ years of mine planning, operations, consulting, or cost estimation experience
  • Strong understanding of mine design, production schedules, and cost drivers
  • Ability to read and interpret technical studies and operational data
  • Solid grasp of equipment selection, cycle times, and productivity modeling
  • Comfortable working independently and contributing in a fast-moving environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience building or validating cost models
  • Familiarity with project economic analysis (NPV, sensitivities, scenarios)
  • Exposure to both open-pit and underground operations
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional or technical teams
  • Strong Excel or Python skills for modeling and analysis

Team & Growth Path

You’ll work closely with product and technical teams to refine methodologies, validate assumptions, and support development of new modeling capabilities. As our tools expand, this role can evolve into a lead position focused on cost modeling and engineering standards.

What We Offer

  • Ownership of core engineering inputs and methodologies
  • Autonomy and flexibility in how you approach modeling and analysis
  • Remote-first work environment with North American time-zone overlap
  • A collaborative team working on meaningful, industry-wide problems
  • Competitive compensation based on experience and location

Not a Fit If…

  • You prefer highly structured environments with rigid processes
  • You want a narrow, specialized role rather than a varied engineering scope
  • You’re uncomfortable working across engineering, analysis, and product collaboration
